Included Activities

The Great Escape 5 Night Cruise includes a range of activities which allow guests to get in touch with the stunning natural beauty of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

Expedition Boats

Our expedition boats are designed to provide fast and efficient transport to and from the 'Island Passage' and are well suited for exploring the local bays, islands, mangroves and rivers that are right on your doorstep.

All boats are manned with guides, two-way radios and safety equipment for your peace of mind.

Fishing

Our fishing has no rigid daily schedule, however a general fishing area is covered.

The different areas will be covered according to what the Captain and Fishing guides believe will be best in that specific day or week.

Day by day, locations and tides are studied. That way we can provide the best fishing based on the weather conditions, as well as the reports we have from the area. Fishing sessions run accordingly however we endeavor to have a few hours most days allocated to fishing.

Kayaks

Explore the bays and inlets of the Hauraki Gulf with our twin and single kayaks which we carry onboard the 'Island Passage'.

Several levels are available during the expedition to suit the novice to the more experienced.

Tours/Walks

We have joined forces with local experts to provide you with a series of tours and walks that introduce you to the Hauraki Gulf.  There are over 110km's (68 miles) of graded walking tracks on Great Barrier Island, as well as excellent walks on all of the other islands we visit, to explore at your pace and leisure.

Get to know the Hauraki Gulf with our first class excursions which are led by expert guides who travel with you to uncover the mysteries of the region’s wildlife.  We also offer specialised expeditions including trekking, kayaking and panoramic helicopter flights over the area.

All scheduled full day activities include a chef-prepared gourmet lunch.  For the shorter excursions (3-4 hours), a delicious meal will be served upon your return to the ship.

Bird watching

A large number of seabirds breed in the Hauraki Gulf: Cook's, Pycroft's, Grey-faced and Black Petrels; Common Diving Petrel; Buller's, Little, Flesh-footed and Fluttering Shearwaters; Fairy Prion, Blue Penguin and White-faced Storm Petrel. We also regularly see the recently rediscovered NZ Storm Petrel. Other seabirds, which visit the Hauraki Gulf breed either north of New Zealand in tropical and sub-tropical waters, or in the chilly sub Antarctic.

Photography

Opportunities abound to explore landscape and nature at it's very best. From stunning island scenery, to native wildlife, flora and fauna.

We also encounter whales and dolphins along the way and opportunities are ever present for the photographer.
